Organic farming

The pilot site in Barangay Udalo has 5 rice production areas which represent 200 ha in total. Over 10 ha were washed away during Typhon Nona in December 2015.

About 50ha are located higher in the mountains, on the Mangyans ancestral lands (pictures below are from Latag), and are farmed organically by Mangyans, on rice terraces. Unfortunately, the production isn't valued as organic, and is often sold at a cheaper price then rice from the low-lands.

The majority of the rice fields (150 ha) are located in the low-lands, where farmers practice conventional farming (semi-intensive farming systems, using chemicals).

The population is working towards migrating the land using a step-by-step approach towards organic farming.
